THE
GENESIS
Under a broad policy framework of providing new technological
education required for the industrial growth of the country
in general and more particularly for the State of Andhra Pradesh,
"Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University" was
established on 2nd October, 1972, by an act of State Legislature.
Rightly named after the ardent lover of Science and Technology,
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India,
the University was established with the noble objectives of
strengthening and improving the standards of Technological
Education and making it relevant to the rural and industrial
development of the country. Technological advancements and
infrastructure facilitate to determine the progress and prosperity
of a nation. This is very true in case of India, endowed with
huge population growing at a rapid pace and vast natural resources
largely remaining unexploited. Realizing that promotion of
technical education was the imperative need of the hour, "JAWAHARLAL
NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY", the first technological
university of India - was established in Andhra Pradesh with
head quarters at Hyderabad. The singular objective by the
way of emphasis on training & research in engineering
and applied sciences. On its formation, the Government Engineering
Colleges at Anantapur, Kakinada and Hyderabad, along with
the Government College of Fine Arts and Architecture at Hyderabad,
became its Constituent Colleges. The back bone of the oldest
Engineering Colleges of South India.
4 DECADES OF JNTU
In the last 4 decades, JNTU has produced highly professional
and competitive Engineers by infusing greater quality and
content into the curriculum and educating the students with
appropriate skills suitable for a rapidly changing industrial
scenario. To improve the Quality of Technical Education,
it has participated actively in a number of National Programmes
like Teacher Quality Improvement Programme, National Programmes
and Expansion of Infrastructure facilities for emerging
Technologies. JNT University is also offering through its
College of Fine Arts and School of Architecture, highly
professional and job-oriented courses in creative arts,
architectural design and planning. In this endeavor, JNTU
is now one step ahead and has started industrial collaboration
to make the roots of education much stronger. The outcome
of which is now "International academy of Computer
Graphics" (IACG), a division of PENTASOFTECH. JNTU
has taken up the initiative of collaborating with IACG for
offering a four years Bachelor degree in Multimedia which
contains all the major fields along with opted specialization
in Animation, Modeling, SFX & VFX and Gaming. ACADEMIC
DEVELOPMENT At the time of formation of the University,
it had basically an undergraduate character with conventional
Bachelor Degree Programmes in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical
and Electronics & Communication Engineering at its Constituent
Engineering Colleges at Anantapur, Hyderabad Kakinada and
B.Arch., and Diploma in Fine Arts Programmes in the College
of Fine Arts and Architecture. The Diploma in Fine Arts
programmes in Applied Arts, Painting, Sculpture and Photography
have been upgraded into Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) programmes.
JNTU has collaborated with IACG, for offering Bachelor of
Multimedia (BMM), a four year degree program.
